\u201cThe tongue spills out what the life contains.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cMay I see your tongue?\u201d That\u2019s what the doctor\nasks us when we visit his office for consultation. It is a well-known fact that\nthe tongue serves as an index to our physical condition. Likewise, the tongue\nis a good index to our spiritual condition. Jesus Himself said at one time,\n\u201d \u2026 out of the abundance of the heart the mouth speaketh\u201d (Matthew\n12:34). Our words definitely reveal our character, although many of us seem to\nbe unaware of that fact.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

If you were walking from the well carrying a bucket of water\nand someone jostled against you, there could be spilled from the bucket only\nthat which it contained. As you walk along the way of life, you are constantly\nbeing jostled by people. If your life is full of ill nature, bad temper, and\nugly disposition, those things will be spilled from it. If it is full of\nChristian spirit, you will spill a smile or some pleasant remark as people bump\ninto you. You can spill from your bucket only that which it contains.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

THE TONGUE DEFINED <\/p>\n\n\n\n

In the Bible, the tongue is called \u201d \u2026 an unruly\nevil, full of deadly poison\u201d (James 3:8). It is spoken of as false, lying,\nfroward, naughty, perverse, backbiting, and deceitful. There are six things\nwhich God hates; seven are an abomination to Him. Of these seven, three peak of\nthe tongue: \u201d \u2026 a lying tongue \u2026 \u201d (Proverbs 6: 17); \u201cA\nfalse witness that speaketh lies, and he that soweth discord among\nbrethren\u201d (Proverbs 6: 19).<\/p>\n\n\n\n

THE POWER OF THE TONGUE <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Solomon, the wisest man who ever lived, made this statement,\n\u201cDeath and life are in the power of the tongue \u2026 \u201d (Proverbs\n18:21). How true! Think of the jurist who must use his tongue to pronounce\neither the death sentence upon a man or to declare his innocence. But spiritual\ndeath and spiritual life are also in the power of the tongue. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Spiritual death has been defined as \u201canything which\nseparates one from God.\u201d What power the tongue has here! How many people\nhave listened to the words of atheists, agnostics, infidels, Christ haters and\nrejecters, and have gone down to spiritual death \u2013 eternal separation from God!\n<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The tongue also has the power to bring spiritual life to\nothers. Millions have heard the words of eternal life from the lips of others\nand have believed them and received spiritual life, eternal life, as a result.\nFaith comes by the hearing of God\u2019s Word. Jesus said, \u201d \u2026 He that\nheareth my word, and believeth on him that sent me, hath everlasting life \u2026\n\u201d (John 5:24). It has \u201d \u2026 pleased God by the foolishness of preaching\nto save them that believe\u201d (1 Corinthians 1:21 ). <\/p>\n\n\n\n

We have the glorious privilege and opportunity of using our\ntongues to proclaim God\u2019s Word, thereby bringing spiritual life to others. What\ngreater or more worthwhile use could we make of our tongues?<\/p>\n<\/body>","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
