The devil\u2019s hatred of Scripture is revealed the first time\nhis name is mentioned in the Bible. Moreover, those who associate with him\nmanifest the same hatred. Let us notice Genesis 3: 1-3: <\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cNow the serpent was more subtil than any beast of the\nfield which the LORD God had made. And he said unto the woman, Yea, hath God\nsaid, Ye shall not eat of every tree of the garden? And the woman said unto the\nserpent, We may eat ofthe fruit of the trees of the garden: But of the fruit of\nthe tree which is in the midst of the garden, God hath said, Ye shall not eat\nofit, neither shall ye touch it, lest ye die.\u201d <\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201d \u2026 Yea, hath God said \u2026 \u201d This is Satan\u2019s\nfirst utterance in Scripture. It is a challenge to the authority of the Word of\nGod. Eve, in listening to the devil, altered God\u2019s Word: <\/p>\n\n\n\n

l. She omitted the words every and freely (Genesis 2: 16). <\/p>\n\n\n\n

2. She added the words neither shall ye touch it (Genesis\n3:3), to God\u2019s command in Genesis 2:17. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

3. She altered the certainty of \u201d \u2026 thou shalt surely\ndie\u201d (Genesis 2: 17), to the uncertainty of\u201d \u2026 lest ye die\u201d\n(Genesis 3:3). <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Satan\u2019s temptation succeeded because the Word of God was\nomitted, added to, and altered. It was undermined to the extent that the devil\nwas believed when he denied the Word of God, saying, \u201d \u2026 Ye shall not\nsurely die\u201d (Genesis 3:4). <\/p>\n\n\n\n

In sharp contrast, Satan\u2019s temptation of the last Adam\nfailed because the Lord Jesus Christ three times repeated, honoured, and\nestablished what God had said. He refuted the devil\u2019s suggestions with the\naffirmation, \u201d \u2026 It is written \u2026 \u201d (Matthew4:4,7,10). <\/p>\n\n\n\n

In Christ\u2019s great high priestly prayer (John 17), the Word\nof God is referred to three times (verses 8,14,17). The disciples received the\nWord, and they conformed to it. That fellowship with the Father sanctified them\nand determined their relationship to the world. God\u2019s commandments are only\nkept when they are obeyed. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Three times God has warned us of the seriousness of altering\nHis Word: <\/p>\n\n\n\n

1. \u201cYe shall not add unto the word which I command you,\nneither shall ye diminish ought from it, that ye may keep the commandments of\nthe LORD your God which I command you\u201d (Deuteronomy 4:2). <\/p>\n\n\n\n

2. \u201cEvery word of God is pure: he is a shield unto them\nthat put their trust in him. Add thou not unto his words, lest he reprove thee,\nand thou be found a liar\u201d (Proverbs 30:5-6). <\/p>\n\n\n\n

3. \u201cFor I testify unto every man that heareth the words\nof the prophecy of this book, If any man shall add unto these things, God shall\nadd unto him the plagues that are written in this book: And if any man shall\ntake away from the words of the book of this prophecy, God shall take away his\npart out of the book of life, and out of the holy city, and from the things\nwhich are written in this book. He which testifieth these things saith, Surely\nI come quickly. Amen. Even so, come, Lord Jesus. The grace of our Lord Jesus\nChrist be with you all. Amen\u201d (Revelation 22:18-21). <\/p>\n\n\n\n

God has entrusted us with His Word; therefore, it is time\nfor believers to uphold His Word.<\/p>\n<\/body>","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
