It is Christmas! The best diagnosis of the true meaning of\nChristmas was given by a doctor over 2000 years ago, and it cannot be improved\nupon. The doctor is Luke, and the diagnosis is found in the second chapter of\nhis inspired \u201cprescription,\u201d which is known to us as the Gospel\naccording to St. Luke. In the eleventh verse, we have the very core of the\nmessage, \u201cFor unto you is born this day in the city of David a Saviour,\nwhich is Christ the Lord\u201d (Luke 2: II). <\/p>\n\n\n\n
Note how clear and sharp is the doctor\u2019s diagnosis! \u201d\n\u2026 unto you \u2026 \u201d that is personal. \u201d \u2026 this day \u2026 \u201c-that\nis present. \u201d \u2026 a Saviour \u2026 \u201d -that is precious. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
There is all the difference in the world between Christmas\nand Christ. Millions make a holiday over the former and forget the latter.\nChrist is frequently crowded out of this special day, which is meant to\nremember Him the most. Holiness is hidden beneath the holly. The wreath is hung\nhigher than the cross. Often the Saviour is replaced by Santa Claus. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
Yet without Christ, there is really no Christmas. Without\nHim, there is nothing to sing about or rejoice over. Outward merriment all too\nquickly becomes inward mockery to the starved soul. It is time for us to turn\nback to that perfect prescription of the old doctor and spend a quiet moment\nwith his words. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201d \u2026 unto you \u2026 \u201d This is a personal message,\nand there can he no evasion nor denial. What have you done with the Lord Jesus\nChrist for this occasion? You have remembered family and friends with gifts,\nbut have you remembered Him? <\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201d \u2026 this day \u2026 \u201d Yes, this day, this very\nmoment! Thoughts of Christmas fill the air, and there is at least the passing\nacknowledgment of His person. But do you know that the thoughts of Christ\nconcerning you are those of grace and eternal life? He offers you the most\nwonderful Christmas gift available-the gift of your soul\u2019s salvation. What will\nyou do with Christ this Christmas? <\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201d \u2026 a Saviour \u2026 \u201d Yes, that is the power\nsource of the prescription. The road from Christmas to Calvary is really a short\none, for this Babe of Bethlehem came to die as the Sin-Bearer upon Calvary\u2019s\ncross. Not \u201cSanta\u201d but the Saviour; not \u201cClaus\u201d but Christ.\nIt is only the man or woman, the boy or girl, who has truly been to Calvary,\nwhose sinful heart has been broken at the foot of the cross, whose life has\nbeen cleansed and transformed, who can really and truly know the blessed joy of\na \u201cheavenly Christmas\u201d within the heart. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
How precious are those words, \u201d \u2026 unto you \u2026 this\nday \u2026 a Saviour \u2026 \u201c, when the heart is open to receive Him. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
How is it with you? Do you belong to the Lord? Or are you\nstill passing by the manger, forgetting that the Holy Babe long ago climbed\nfrom His cradle and died on the cross for your redemption. \u201cFor all have\nsinned, and come short of the glory of God\u201d, but we are \u201d \u2026\njustified freely by his grace through the redemption that is in Christ\nJesus\u201d (Romans 3:23-24). <\/p>\n\n\n\n
