{"id":2750,"date":"2021-09-09T19:34:24","date_gmt":"2021-09-09T19:34:24","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/allthecounselofgod.com\/?p=2750"},"modified":"2021-09-09T19:34:24","modified_gmt":"2021-09-09T19:34:24","slug":"partial-obedience","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/allthecounselofgod.com\/index.php\/2021\/09\/09\/partial-obedience\/","title":{"rendered":"&#8220;Partial Obedience&#8221;"},"content":{"rendered":"<body>\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>Text:\u00a0 1 Samuel 15<\/li><li>Intro:<ul><li>I believe why the majority of Christians fail in their walk with the Lord and end up defeated is because of their lack of total obedience or partial obedience to the Lord.<\/li><\/ul><\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>In other words failing to do what God told them to do and the way to do it.<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>Most Christians today put their own spin on what God commands them to do even though the word of God is very clear.<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>Then when things don\u2019t work out they have the tendency to blame someone else instead of acknowledging their sin of disobedience.<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>What is the result for the Christian?<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>They do not lose their salvation.<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>However, they can lose their crowns or rewards at the judgment seat of Christ and the privilege to rule with Christ on the earth during the Millennium.<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>I believe we will see this sin of partial obedience well illustrated in the life of King Saul.<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>As a result of his partial obedience, Saul lost his crown and his right to rule.<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>I.\u00a0 1 Sam 15:1-4 \u2013 God\u2019s command to Saul.<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>-The LORD\u2019s command very clear.<\/li><li>-Not subject to interpretation.<\/li><li>-See v. 3.<\/li><li>-Simply put \u2013 \u201cUtterly destroy Amalek and all they have\u201d.<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>II.\u00a0\u00a0 1\u00a0 Sam 15:6-9 \u2013 \u2013 Saul\u2019s sin of partial obedience.<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>-V. 7 \u2013 Shows Saul did obey the Lord\u2019s command in that he smote the Amalekities\u201d<ul><li>-Vs. 8-9 \u2013 Notice Saul\u2019s sin of partial obedience.<ul><li>*He kept Agag, the king of Amalekites alive.<\/li><\/ul><ul><li>*Kept the best of the livestock and everything and utterly destroyed the vile and refuse.<\/li><\/ul><\/li><\/ul><ul><li>-Remember the Lord\u2019s command in v3. to utterly destroy all life both human and animal and all that the Amalekities had (material\u00a0 possessions.)<\/li><\/ul><\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>III.\u00a0 1 Sam. 15:10-11 \u2013 God\u2019s reaction to Saul\u2019s sin.<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>-It greatly displeased God.<\/li><li>-God had a change of mind about making Saul, king.<\/li><li>-I believe when we are not totally obedient to the Lord, that it displeases Him.<\/li><li>-It makes God change His mind about us.<\/li><li>-Maybe withholding a blessing from us.<\/li><li>-Or taking something that He has given us back.<ul><li>*Material Possession.<\/li><\/ul><ul><li>*Good Health.<\/li><\/ul><\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>-Notice, also in v. 11, the man of God, Samuel\u2019s reaction.<ul><li>*\u201d\u2026it grieved Samuel; and he cried unto the LORD all night.\u201d<\/li><\/ul><\/li><li>-When a pastor\u2019s sees his people not being totally obedient to the Lord, it grieves him and makes him cry over their sin.<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>IV. 1 Sam 15:12-13 \u2013 Saul\u2019s Self-Deception.<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>-Notice v. 13 \u2013 Saul convinced himself that he has done everything the Lord commanded him to do.<ul><li>-Sometimes when we sin, we don\u2019t want to the face the fact that we have.<\/li><\/ul><\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>V.\u00a0 1 Sam 15:14 \u2013 The exposure of Saul\u2019s sin.<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>-Notice the bleating of the sheep exposure Saul\u2019s sin.<\/li><li>-v3. Saul commanded to destroy everything including livestock.<\/li><li>-God does have a sense a humor.<\/li><li>-Here has the bleating of sheep to expose sin.<\/li><li>-One way or another your sin will find you out.<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>VI. 1 Sam. 15:15 \u2013 Saul\u2019s justification for his sin.<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>-Notice he blames the people.<\/li><li>-Notice however in v.9 both Saul and the people made the decision together to spare Agag and the best of the livestock.<\/li><li>-Notice Saul says but for a good cause, a religious reason.<\/li><li>-\u201csacrifice unto the Lord.<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>VII. 1 Sam. 15:16-18 \u2013 Samuel Reminds Saul.<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>-How Lord had blessed him and made him king when he was nobody.<\/li><li>-How the Lord commanded him to destroy the Amalekites.<\/li><li>-I believe it is the man of God, the pastor to remind the people.<\/li><li>*How God has greatly blessed them by saving them from a sinner\u2019s\u00a0 hell.<\/li><li>*Of the Lord\u2019s commandments as spelled out in the Word of God.<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>VIII. 1 Sam. 15:19 \u2013 Samuel Confronts Saul with his Sin.<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>-Samuel asks Saul why he could not obey the Lord.<\/li><li>-Samuel calls sin for what it is \u201cevil in the sight of the Lord.<\/li><li>-Again, it is the man of God responsibility to confront a person with their sin with the preaching of the Word of God.<\/li><li>-And spell out what sin is and how God views it as evil.<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>IX. 1 Sam 15:20-21 \u2013 Saul answers Samuel and sticks to his story.<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>-v 20 \u2013 Saul\u2019s responds I did obey the Lord.<\/li><li>-v.21 \u2013 However, the people disobeyed the Lord but for a good reason, religion.<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>-Remember, The king or leader is to set the example for the people to follow but he did not.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>-Again, v. 9 \u2013 says Saul and people together choose to disobey God.<\/li><li>-Saul was a bad example.<\/li><li>-He caused the people to sin.<\/li><li>-Regardless, if the animals were to be sacrificed to Lord still obeyed God\u2019s command.<\/li><li>-Principle need to see \u201cIt never right to do wrong to do right.\u201d<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>X.\u00a0 1 Sam 15:22 \u2013 Samuel tells Saul what is important.<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>-V. 22 \u2013 Read.<\/li><li>-The Lord values obedience to His commands and His word more than He does religious and formalistic rituals.<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>XI. 1 Sam 15:23 \u2013 Samuel Describes the Seriousness of Saul\u2019s Sin And the Results.<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>-Rebellion not doing it God\u2019s Way is as the sin of witchcraft.<\/li><li>-We know in the Old Testament those who performed witchcraft were to be put to death.<\/li><li>-Stubbornness, doing it our way, refusing to yield to God, is as iniquity and idolatry.<\/li><li>-Result of Saul rejecting the Word of the Lord, he loses his kingship.<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>XII.\u00a0 1 Sam 15:24-25 \u2013 Saul\u2019s Reaction.<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>-V. 24 \u2013 Saul changes his tune.<\/li><li>-He shows sorrow.<\/li><li>-However, it is worldly sorrow \u2013 Sorry that he got caught.<\/li><li>-See 2 Cor. 7:9-10 \u2013 wordly vs. godly sorrow<\/li><li>-Godly Sorrow \u2013 Sorry sinned against God and disobeyed God<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>not for being caught.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>-Only changed after he heard lost his kingdom.<\/li><li>-Notice he feared the people.<\/li><li>-The Bible says \u201cThe fear of man bringeth a snare: but whoso putteth his trust in the Lord shall be safe.\u201d<\/li><li>-v.25 \u2013 Notice he asks Samuel to pardon Him.<\/li><li>-He needs to ask God to pardon his Sin.<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>XIII.\u00a0 1 Sam 15:26-29 \u2013 Samuel Responses.<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>-Samuel rejects Saul because he rejected the Word of the Lord and the Lord rejected Saul.<\/li><li>-Saul of all people the king of Israel should have known better.<\/li><li>-He was held to a higher level of accountability because of his position.<\/li><li>v. 27 \u2013 The renting of Samuel\u2019s mantle represents the renting of the kingdom from Saul.<\/li><li>-Principle: Sometimes the man of God has to reject those and separate from those who will not truly repent and get right with the Lord.<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>XIV.\u00a0\u00a0 1 Sam. 15:30-31 Saul\u2019s final plea to Samuel &amp; Samuel\u2019s response.<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>-Saul asks Samuel to worship the Lord with him.<\/li><li>-Samuel responds to Saul\u2019s plea and I believe has one last time of pray and worship with king Saul.<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>XV.\u00a0 1 Sam. 15:32-33 Samuel Finish the Job.<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>-Samuel finishes the job that Saul was suppose to do.<\/li><li>-Remember, if the Lord commands you to do something and you don\u2019t do it, He will raise someone else to do it.<\/li><li>-And that person will end up with the blessing originally intended for you in this life and the life to come.<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>XVI.\u00a0 1 Sam 15:34-35 Samuel(Saint) and Saul(Sinner) Go Their Separate Ways.<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>-v. 34 \u2013 Read<\/li><li>-v. 35 \u2013 Notice, Samuel never to see Saul again until the day of his death.<\/li><li>*But still mourns for Saul and his sin<\/li><li>-I believe as a pastor, that I will always mourn over those who refused to get right with God because I know the consequences that face them.<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>-For the unsaved who reject Christ \u2013 all of eternity in a lake of fire.<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>-For a Christian who refuse to obey God totally.<\/li><li>*In this life \u2013 A life of constant turmoil with no peace and joy.<\/li><li>*In the next life\u00a0 \u2013 Lost of rewards at the judgment seat of Christ and miss out ruling and reigning with Him during the Millennium.<\/li><\/ul>\n<\/body>","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Text:\u00a0 1 Samuel 15 Intro: I believe why the majority of Christians fail in their walk with the Lord and end up defeated is because of their lack of total obedience or partial obedience to the Lord.
