\u201cBehold, a virgin shall be with child, and shall bring forth a son, and they shall call his name Emmanuel, which being interpreted is, God with us.\u201d<\/strong> Matthew 1:23<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Introduction<\/u><\/strong>:
The name Emmanuel finds its origin in (Isa. 7:14<\/strong>) when the Lord said in a prophetic voice, \u201cTherefore the Lord himself shall give you a sign; Behold, a virgin shall conceive, and bear a son, and shall call his name Immanuel.\u201d<\/li><\/ul>
The Holy Spirit interprets the name for us when He says it means \u201cGod with us<\/strong>.\u201d
There are other passages in the \u201cWord of God which are God interpreted so that there would be no chance of man\u2019s misinterpreting or abusing those passages with religious slants.<\/li><\/ul>
A look at a few of them will give us a greater impact of the verse at hand.<\/li><\/ul><\/li><\/ul>
A.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 \u201cHe first findeth his own brother Simon, and saith unto him, We have found the Messias, which is being interpreted the Christ.\u201d (John 1:41<\/strong>)<\/li><\/ul>
B.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 \u201cAnd they bring him unto the place Golgotha, which is being interpreted, The place of a skull.\u201d (Mk. 15:22<\/strong>)<\/li><\/ul>
C.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 \u201cAnd at the ninth hour Jesus cried with a loud voice, saying, Eloi, Eloi, lama sabachthani? which is, being interpreted, My God, my God, why hast thou forsaken me?\u201d (Mk. 15:34<\/strong>)<\/li><\/ul>\n

It is obvious that when God interprets something it is of grave importance.\n
\n
God desperately wants man to know that He is a God of infinite concern for He came to be with us!<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n\n\n\n
I.\u00a0\u00a0 HOW IS GOD WITH US<\/u><\/strong>
The very reason God tells us Emmanuel means \u201cGod With us<\/strong>\u201d is suggestive of the fact that there would be those who would question the incarnation of Jesus Christ.<\/li><\/ul>
A.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 God was with man in the flesh<\/strong> \u2013
Phil. 2:6-8; 1 Tim. 3:16<\/strong><\/li><\/ul><\/li><\/ul>
B.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 By being omnipresent<\/strong> \u2013
Matt. 18:20; 28:20; Jn. 3:13<\/strong><\/li><\/ul><\/li><\/ul>
C.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 As God the Word<\/strong> \u2013
Jn. 1:1,14<\/strong><\/li><\/ul><\/li><\/ul>\n

D.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 The Holy spirit<\/strong> \u2013\n
\n
Jn. 14:16; 15:26<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n\n\n\n
II. WHEN IS GOD WITH US<\/u><\/strong>
God recognized that man should not be alone \u2013 (Gen. 2:18<\/strong>),<\/li><\/ul>
When Moses carried the burdens of Israel alone God provided a remedy \u2013 (Num. 11:14-17<\/strong>).<\/li><\/ul>
Jesus stated that even He was not alone \u2013 (Jn 8:16; 16:32<\/strong>).<\/li><\/ul>
A.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 In the darkest hour.<\/strong>
1.\u00a0 In the valley of the shadow of death \u2013 (Ps. 23:4<\/strong>)<\/li><\/ul><\/li><\/ul>
B.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 In Victory<\/strong>
1.\u00a0 Victory over the grave \u2013 (1 Cor. 15:55,56<\/strong>)<\/li><\/ul>
2.\u00a0 In overcoming the world \u2013 (1 Jn. 5:4,5<\/strong>)<\/li><\/ul>
3.\u00a0 Victory over old nature \u2013 (Col. 2:13-15<\/strong>)<\/li><\/ul><\/li><\/ul>
C.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 In Prayer \u2013 (Jn. 17:1)<\/strong>
1.\u00a0 Spirit prays for us \u2013 (Rom. 8:26<\/strong>)<\/li><\/ul>
2.\u00a0 Father hears in secret \u2013 (Matt. 6:6<\/strong>)<\/li><\/ul>
3.\u00a0 Christ wants to respond \u2013 (Jn. 14:13<\/strong>)<\/li><\/ul><\/li><\/ul>\n

III.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 WHERE IS GOD WITH US<\/u><\/strong>
A.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 In the furthest place.<\/strong>
1.\u00a0 Philip in the desert \u2013 (Acts 8:26-40<\/strong>)<\/li><\/ul>
2.\u00a0 Elijah on the mountain \u2013 (1 Kings 18<\/strong>)<\/li><\/ul>
3.\u00a0 Daniel in the lions den \u2013 (Dan. 6<\/strong>)<\/li><\/ul>
4.\u00a0 Jeremiah in prison \u2013 (Jer. 37<\/strong>)<\/li><\/ul><\/li><\/ul>\n

IV. WHY IS GOD WITH US<\/u><\/strong>
A.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Because of His promise \u2013 (Matt. 28:20)<\/strong><\/li><\/ul>
B.<\/strong>\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Because of the love that is part of His character \u2013 (2 Cor. 13:11; 1 Jn. 4:8)<\/strong><\/li><\/ul>\n

C.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Because of our great need \u2013 (Rom. 8:31-39)<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n\n\n\n
Father With Son In Attic
A father had told his son he would send him to sleep in the attic, with only bread and water for his supper, if he broke the laws of the home once more.<\/li><\/ul>
The child disobeyed again and was sent to the attic:
The father could not eat. He had the boy on his mind and his heart.<\/li><\/ul>
His wife said: \u201cI know what you are thinking. But you must not bring the boy from the attic.<\/li><\/ul>
It would cause him to disobey again. He would have no respect for your word.<\/li><\/ul>
You must not cheapen your relation as his father by failing to keep your promise.\u201d<\/li><\/ul><\/li><\/ul>\n

To which her husband replied: \u201cYour are right. I will not break my word.
To do so would cause my son to lose his respect for my word.<\/li><\/ul>
But he is so lonely up there.\u201d<\/li><\/ul>
He kissed his wife good night, entered the attic, ate bread and water with the boy, and when the child went to sleep on the hard boards, his father\u2019s arm was his pillow.<\/li><\/ul>\n
