{"id":4136,"date":"2025-09-28T01:20:12","date_gmt":"2025-09-28T01:20:12","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/allthecounselofgod.com\/?p=4136"},"modified":"2025-09-28T01:20:16","modified_gmt":"2025-09-28T01:20:16","slug":"abraham-and-others-who-knew-their-true-worth-in-the-sight-of-god","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/allthecounselofgod.com\/index.php\/2025\/09\/28\/abraham-and-others-who-knew-their-true-worth-in-the-sight-of-god\/","title":{"rendered":"ABRAHAM AND OTHERS WHO KNEW THEIR TRUE WORTH IN THE SIGHT OF GOD"},"content":{"rendered":"<body>\n<p><strong>GENESIS 18:27<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Intro:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Self-esteem is rarely found in the heart of a true man of God, for the more virtuous a saint becomes, the less satisfied he will be with himself.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Increasing love for God means increasing hatred of the self-life.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The Bible has many examples of this fact.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Abraham. \u201cI am but dust and ashes \u201c-Genesis 18: 27<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Abraham was the friend of God, and the greatest character in the ancient world.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Divine secrets were shared with the illustrious patriarch, and in a sense unknown by ordinary men, he walked with God.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Yet Abraham despised himself and became increasingly conscious of his shortcomings.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>He considered himself unworthy to commune with God and said he was dust and ashes.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Job. \u201d Behold, I am vile \u201c-Job 40:4<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>We are left in no doubt as to the true greatness of this man.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>It is recorded that the Lord said of him<strong> \u201d \u2026 there is none like him in the earth, a perfect and an upright man, one that feareth God, and escheweth evil \u201d (Job 1: 8).<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>When Job\u2019s friends declared him to be a hypocrite ; that secret sin had brought about his misfortunes, he maintained that his heart was clean before God.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Yet when he came face to face with his Maker, he whispered,<strong>\u201cI am vile.\u201d<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>David.\u201dBehold, I was shapen in iniquity \u201c-Psalm 51: 5<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The sweet psalmist of Israel was a man after God\u2019s own heart, and although certain indiscretions marred his fine record of devotion, his integrity and true consecration were always beyond question.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Yet this great man sadly shook his head and denied his own virtue.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Psalm 51 is a heart-throb in which we hear tears of anguish, cries of disappointment, and the moan of a man who feels that he is a complete failure.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Ezra.\u201d I blush to lift up my face \u201c-Ezra 9: 6.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Ezra was one of the greatest men of his day.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>He held an honorable place among the spiritual aristocracy of the nation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>His courageous example at a time when Israel needed spiritual leadership, lifted the nation to new heights of achievement.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>He and Nehemiah were the greatest men of that generation; yet Ezra\u2019s confession claimed his unworthiness to God.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>He said,<strong>\u201d O my God, I am ashamed and blush to lift up my face.\u201d<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Isaiah. \u201d \u2026 I am undone \u2026 I am a man of unclean lips\u201d \u2013 Isaiah 6:5.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Isaiah was one of the Major Prophets, who gave counsel and guidance to a stumbling nation and at the same time provided unerring information concerning the coming of the Messiah.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>He was a friend of the king, a father to the nation, and a trusted servant of the Most High ; yet of himself he had nothing good to say.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Simon Peter. \u201cI am a sinful man\u201d \u2013 Luke 5:8<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>There is something delightfully human about Simon Peter, for at all times he was unquestionably honest.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Sometimes strong emotions and fierce temptations upset his equilibrium; but within minutes, the real man appeared again.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>He was a great man, an excellent preacher, and a brother beloved.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Yet all who read the New Testament realize how very much Peter abhorred himself.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>The Centurion. \u201cI am not worthy \u201c-Luke 7:6<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>This Gentile soldier won a place among the great immortals, for his spiritual perception enabled Christ to say, \u201c<strong> I have not found so great faith, no, not in Israel.\u201d<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Although he was an officer in Caesar\u2019s army, and occupied a position of importance, he felt that his home was unworthy of a visit from the Carpenter of Nazareth.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Paul. \u201cI am the chief of sinners \u201c-I Timothy 1:15.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Paul was undoubtedly the greatest of all Christian missionaries.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>He was the first to look beyond the narrow bounds of Israel\u2019s horizons, and with determination of purpose to penetrate into the unknown.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>His indomitable spirit and untiring energy took the Gospel to millions of heathen, and with God\u2019s help he established the Christian Church.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Yet Paul claimed to be the greatest sinner in the world.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Conclusion:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>God has strange ways of estimating the greatness of men.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Sometimes the first are last, and the last first.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Those who are great in their own estimation are far from the will of God, while others who are overwhelmed by a sense of unworthiness are ready for the Master\u2019s use.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Although, these men saw themselves unworthy before God saw them vessels to be used unto honor.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Each one these men because they humble themselves under the might hand of God, God exalted them and was able to use them in a mighty way for His honor and glory.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Because these men were humble God gave them the grace they needed to accomplished things they need for Him.<\/p>\n<\/body>","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>GENESIS 18:27 Intro: Self-esteem is rarely found in the heart of a true man of God, for the more virtuous a saint becomes, the less satisfied he will be with himself.
