{"id":4163,"date":"2025-11-15T22:01:37","date_gmt":"2025-11-15T22:01:37","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/allthecounselofgod.com\/?p=4163"},"modified":"2025-11-15T22:02:17","modified_gmt":"2025-11-15T22:02:17","slug":"what-sort-of-mind-have-you","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/allthecounselofgod.com\/index.php\/2025\/11\/15\/what-sort-of-mind-have-you\/","title":{"rendered":"WHAT SORT OF MIND HAVE YOU?"},"content":{"rendered":"<body>\n<p><strong>Bible Reading: Philippians 2:1-5.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Aim:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>To monitor our mental state, so that we have the right mind to:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Stay in fellowship with God and each other; and b) Serve God effectively.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Introduction:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Everything we do in our Christian life depends on our minds.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The mind is the battle-ground where Satan seeks to gain control of our decision-making process for evil.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Don\u2019t let Satan hijack your mind.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>One of the saddest things to see is Christians who were once on fire for God, who have let some foolish or false idea into their mind, which resulted in them being separated from other believers, and shipwrecking their faith.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Our mind is like a computer. Garbage IN = garbage OUT.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Question:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Will you let some false idea control your mind, so you break fellowship with God and others?<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Question:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>What kinds of wrong minds and right minds are there?<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ol style=\"list-style-type:upper-roman\" class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>BAD MIND <\/strong>to avoid:<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n\n<p>1) Mind <strong>hardened in pride<\/strong>. (Daniel 5:20).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>When Nebuchadnezzar\u2019s heart was lifted up by his honoured position, his mind was hardened in pride, he was deposed from his throne and lost his glory by becoming insane for 7 years.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Q:<\/strong> Are you proud of something you have achieved?<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>(Proverbs 16:18). Beware of pride.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>2) Neither be ye of <strong>doubtful mind. <\/strong>(Luke 12:29).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Many of us worry and doubt if God will provide our needs.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Jesus tells us:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>a) Your Father knows you need these things. (v.30).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>b) Seek first the Kingdom of God, and all these things shall be added to you. (v.31).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>c) Provide treasure in heaven that fails not. (v.33).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>d) Your heart will be where your treasure is. (v.34).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>3) Mind <strong>evil affected against the brethren. <\/strong>(Acts 14:1,2).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>One of Satan\u2019s most successful devices is gossip and slander, which makes some Christian\u2019s minds evil affected against other Christians.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>They imagine evil or magnify others faults, so that they respond with anger, and are unwilling to work with other believers.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>They then quit church, God\u2019s work suffers, and people go to hell.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>4) God gave them over to a <strong>reprobate mind<\/strong>. (Romans 1:28).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Reprobate means disapproved, rejected, worthless, castaway. It means undiscerning, void of judgment, not seeing good from evil.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Some people are so filled with moral sins and hatred of God\u2019s ways, that they cannot tell right from wrong, or good from evil.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Examples include sodomites.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>5) To be <strong>carnally minded <\/strong>is death, but to be <strong>spiritually minded <\/strong>is life and peace.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Romans 8:6 Carnal mind = prone to sin, sinful appetites and desires.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Many Christians backslide because they feed their <strong>carnal, sinful side <\/strong>by TV, gossip, slander, evil thinking, and not serving God.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>They do not feed their <strong>spiritual side <\/strong>by daily Bible study, filling of the Holy Spirit, and yielding to Christ.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Carnal Christians often criticize spiritual Christians because they convict them of their sin.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>6) Who <strong>mind earthly things. <\/strong>(Philippians 3:19).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Verses 18,19 describe enemies of the cross of Christ as people who mind earthly things.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Why?<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Because they hinder the gospel outreach by their bad example of luke warmness.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>They are attached to the things of earth instead of setting their affections on things above. (Colossians 3:2).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>7) <strong>Soon shaken in mind. <\/strong>(II Thessalonians 2:2).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The Thessalonian Christians were soon shaken in mind by false teachers telling them that they had missed the rapture.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>This upset their spiritual balance and triggered their fears.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Key: We can be shaken in mind if we believe error without first checking it with Scripture.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>8) <strong>Double-minded <\/strong>man is unstable in all his ways. (James 1:8; 4:8).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>He is a waverer, a two-minded, unstable person.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Such a person suffers from divided loyalties.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>On one hand he wants to live as a Christian, and on the other hand he wants to live by the ways of the world and selfishness.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>9) Becoming <strong>wearied <\/strong>(2577) and <strong>faint <\/strong>in your <strong>minds. <\/strong>(Hebrews 12:3).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>To faint is to be exhausted or despondent. Two remedies are:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>a) <strong>Consider him (Christ) <\/strong>who endured such contradiction of sinners against himself, lest ye be wearied and faint in your minds. (Hebrews 12:3).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>b) <strong>Promise of reaping in due season <\/strong>if we faint not. (Galatians 6:9).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>II. GOOD MIND <\/strong>to aim for:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Question: <\/strong>How does God describe your mind?<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The following Scriptures describe how the Spirit-filled believer thinks.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Which of these minds describe your thinking?<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>1) The people had a <strong>mind to work<\/strong>. (Nehemiah 4:6).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Hence the wall of Jerusalem was rebuilt in spite of much opposition.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>If believers have a mind to work for God, the results will be unity, great accomplishments, many people saved, churches built and opposition overcome.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Question:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Do you have a mind to study the Bible and to work for God?<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>2) A mind that is <strong>stayed on God. <\/strong>\u2018Thou wilt keep him in perfect peace, whose mind is stayed on thee: because he trusteth in thee.\u2019 (Isaiah 26:3).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>If our mind is stayed on God and His promises through all of life\u2019s trials, we will be kept in perfect peace.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>3) The <strong>mind filled with hope. <\/strong>(Lamentations 3:21-23).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>If we recall these things to mind we will have hope:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>a) The Lord\u2019s mercies are new every morning (v.23), great is thy faithfulness (v.23) therefore we are not consumed;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>b) His compassions fail not (v.22).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>c) Great is thy faithfulness (v.23).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>d) The Lord is my portion (inheritance). (v.24).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>e) It is good to hope, quietly wait for deliverance, and bear the yoke in our youth (v.25-27).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>f) To subvert a man in his cause, the Lord approveth not (v.36).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>4) <strong>Pure minds, stirred up minds<\/strong>. \u2018I stir up your pure minds by way of remembrance.\u2019 (II Peter 3:1)<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Question:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>How do we keep our mind pure?<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Answer:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>a) By taking heed to God\u2019s Word;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>b) By keeping rubbish out of our minds, lest it be defiled with sin. Avoid bad movies, bad literature, bad friends and bad places.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Question:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>How do we stir up our minds to do God\u2019s work?<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Answer:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Be active in a strong preaching, sin rebuking, soul-winning church.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Do door knocking.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>5) <strong>Be all of one mind<\/strong>. (I Peter 3:8; II Corinthians 13:11; Philippians 1:27; 2:2).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>It is good for everyone in a church to believe true Bible doctrine and be loyally committed to helping each other spread the Gospel.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>If believers constantly disagree with each other, they should repent, or leave the church, so the church can carry on God\u2019s work in peace and unity.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>a) \u2018That ye may with one mind and one mouth glorify God.\u2019 (Romans 15:6).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>b) \u2018Now I beseech you, brethren, . . . that ye all speak the <strong>same thing<\/strong>, and that there be <strong>no divisions <\/strong>among you, but that ye be <strong>perfectly joined together <\/strong>in the <strong>same mind <\/strong>and in the<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>same judgment.\u2019 <\/strong>(I Corinthians 1:10).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>c) \u2018Stand fast in <strong>one spirit<\/strong>, with <strong>one mind striving together <\/strong>for the faith of the Gospel.\u2019 Phil. 1:27<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>d) \u2018Fulfil ye my joy, that ye be <strong>likeminded<\/strong>, having the <strong>same love, <\/strong>being of <strong>one accord, <\/strong>of <strong>one mind.<\/strong>\u2019 (Philippians 2:2).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>e) \u2018Be of the <strong>same mind <\/strong>one toward another.\u2019 (Romans 12:16).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>6) <strong>Lowly, humble <\/strong>mind.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>a) Paul\u2019s ministry was \u2018serving the Lord with <strong>all humility of mind.<\/strong>\u2019 (Acts 20:19).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>b) Paul commands us to \u2018in lowliness of mind let each esteem other better than themselves.\u2019 (Philippians 2:3).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>7) <strong>The mind of Christ <\/strong>described in Philippians 2:5-8 should be in us.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>a) \u2018Let this mind be in you, which was also in Christ Jesus, who: \u2013 made himself of no reputation,<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u2013 took upon himself the form of a servant,<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u2013 humbled himself,<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u2013 became obedient unto death.\u2019 (Philippians 2:5-8).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>b) \u2018We have the mind of Christ.\u2019 (I Corinthians 2:16).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>8) <strong>A sound <\/strong>mind. (II Timothy 1:7).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u2018God hath not given us the spirit of fear; but of power, and of love, and of a sound mind.\u2019<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u2018Sound mind\u2019 means orthodox, well founded, self disciplined, clear judgment of issues.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>9) <strong>A ready <\/strong>mind.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>a) \u2018Feed the flock of God\u2026.willingly,\u2026.but of a ready mind.\u2019 (I Peter 5:2).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u2018Ready\u2019 means prompt, with preparations completed, quick, willing, able to fulfil duties.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>b) \u2018declaration of your ready\u00a0 mind.\u2019 (II Corinthians 8:19).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Ready means eager, cheerful, readiness of mind.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>10) <strong>A renewed <\/strong>mind. (Romans 12:2).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u2018Be transformed by the renewing of your mind, that ye may prove what is that good and acceptable and perfect will of God.\u2019<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>We discover God\u2019s will for our life as we resist being conformed to this world but let God\u2019s Word transform our thinking.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>11) <strong>A fervent <\/strong>mind.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>a) Titus told Paul that the Corinthians had a fervent mind toward Paul.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u2018Your fervent mind toward me.\u2019 (II Corinthians 7:7).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>b) Apollos was fervent in the spirit as shown by his preaching \u2018being fervent in the spirit\u2019 Acts 18:25 \u2018Fervent\u2019\u00a0 means \u2018zealous, hot, intense, glowing, on fire for God, boiling hot.\u2019<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>12) <strong>A subject <\/strong>mind (Titus 3:1) \u2018Put them in <strong>mind <\/strong>to be <strong>subject <\/strong>to principalities and powers, to obey magistrates, to be ready to every good work, to speak evil of no man, to be no brawlers, but <strong>gentle, showing meekness unto all men.<\/strong>\u2019 (Titus 3:1,2).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u2018Subject\u2019 means \u2018to place in submission, under authority, in an orderly fashion.\u2019<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Question:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Do you submit to government, employers, spouse, your preacher and parents?<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Conclusion<\/strong>:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>If we fulfil these 12 conditions, as well as those in Philippians 4:5-7 of:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>(1) gentleness to all men; (2) careful for nothing; (3) praying; (4) thanking God; and (5) requesting God for all our needs; then the peace of God shall keep your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus. (\u2018keep\u2019 in \u2018keep as with a military guard.\u2019)<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>How is your mind?<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The heart is the seat and center of desires, feelings, affections, passions, and impulses.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The heart is the sphere of God\u2019s influence in our life.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In our heart, faith springs up, dwells and works. Christ and the Holy Spirit live in our hearts.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u2018Mind\u2019 means our thoughts, understanding, devices and concepts.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Answers \u2013 Keith Piper<\/strong><\/p>\n<\/body>","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Bible Reading: Philippians 2:1-5.
