Text: Psa 55:19<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Intro:
Psa 55:19 says, \u201cBecause they have no changes, therefore they fear not God.\u201d\u00a0<\/li><\/ul>
The fear of God is one of the most essential things in the Bible.\u00a0<\/li><\/ul>
Solomon said that to fear God and keep his commandments is the whole duty of man [Ecc 12:13<\/a>].\u00a0<\/li><\/ul>
Yet, Paul said that the trouble with men, in general, is that<\/li><\/ul>
\u201cThere is no fear of God before their eyes,\u201d [Rom 3:18<\/a>].\u00a0<\/li><\/ul>
God wants you to fear him.\u00a0<\/li><\/ul>
If you are willing to listen and take instruction, he will teach you the fear of the Lord [Psa 34:11<\/a>].\u00a0<\/li><\/ul>\n
\n
He knows that you and I don\u2019t come by his fear naturally. \u00a0<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n\n\n\n
The fear of God is the beginning of knowledge [Prov 1:7<\/a>] and wisdom [Prov 9:10<\/a>].\u00a0
That is, you don\u2019t even begin to know anything worth knowing and you don\u2019t even begin to have proper wisdom until you fear God.\u00a0<\/li><\/ul>
The fear of God is the starting point.\u00a0<\/li><\/ul>
The Lord is the one who gives wisdom, and he doesn\u2019t give it to people who don\u2019t fear him [Prov 2:4-7<\/a>].\u00a0<\/li><\/ul>\n
\n
Instead, he makes their wisdom foolish [1 Cor 1:20<\/a>].<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n\n\n\n
What David is saying in Psa 55:19<\/a> is this.\u00a0
Many people don\u2019t fear God because they have no changes.\u00a0<\/li><\/ul>
When they have met with a setback, they have just kept going on the way they were going\u2026 no change.\u00a0<\/li><\/ul>
When you look back in your life you can see times when things didn\u2019t work out like you expected.\u00a0<\/li><\/ul>
How did you handle those times?\u00a0<\/li><\/ul>\n
\n
Did you stop and consider that God might have been trying to get your attention?<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n\n\n\n
In Num 22:22-33<\/a>, God intercepted Balaam along the path he was taking to go to King Balak.\u00a0
The first time, the ass he was riding turned aside to a field.\u00a0<\/li><\/ul>
The second time, the ass thrust herself into the wall and crushed Balaam\u2019s foot.\u00a0<\/li><\/ul>
The third time, the ass fell down and wouldn\u2019t move.\u00a0<\/li><\/ul>
Then, miraculously, the ass spoke to Balaam.\u00a0<\/li><\/ul>
Finally, the Lord opened Balaam\u2019s eyes so he could see that God had been an adversary to him all along the way.\u00a0<\/li><\/ul>
And Balaam never stopped to realize that God was trying to get his attention.\u00a0<\/li><\/ul>\n
\n
God let Balaam go on to the king, because he wanted the king to hear Balaam bless Israel [Num 23-24]. \u00a0<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n\n\n\n
Even after the three times God blocked Balaam\u2019s progress, and the three blessings, and the prophecy concerning Israel\u2019s future, Balaam never changed.\u00a0
He never feared God.\u00a0<\/li><\/ul>
He advised King Balak to invite Israel to sacrifice to their gods and to commit fornication with the Moabite women [Num 25:1-3<\/a>].\u00a0<\/li><\/ul>
For this, Balaam died when Israel destroyed the Midianites in a later battle [Num 31:8<\/a>].\u00a0<\/li><\/ul>
Consider this.\u00a0<\/li><\/ul>
There were seven or eight events that should have convinced Balaam to change his ways and fear God.\u00a0<\/li><\/ul>\n
\n
But he never did.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n\n\n\n
If you are one of God\u2019s children, he is going to chasten you [Heb 12:5-11<\/a>].\u00a0
\u00a0And when he does, when he changes your plans, you had better fear God and make the changes in your life that he wants you to make.\u00a0<\/li><\/ul>
I look back on my life and I can see definite times when God blocked my plans, set me up for a huge fall, allowed trouble to come my way, and so forth.\u00a0<\/li><\/ul>
He was trying to get my attention.\u00a0<\/li><\/ul>\n
\n
And he did.\u00a0 God made changes in my plans and, eventually, I made the changes in my life God wanted me to make. \u00a0<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n\n\n\n
Look how God changed Naomi\u2019s plans in the book of Ruth.\u00a0
Naomi finally got the message.\u00a0<\/li><\/ul>
It was time to head back to Israel.\u00a0<\/li><\/ul>
And fortunately, Ruth went with her.\u00a0<\/li><\/ul>
Ruth feared the God of Israel.\u00a0<\/li><\/ul>
And look how things turned out for her.\u00a0<\/li><\/ul>
Naomi\u2019s daughter-in-law ends up marrying Boaz and her first child is in the live of Jesus Christ.\u00a0<\/li><\/ul>\n
\n
God\u2019s plans are always better than ours.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n\n\n\n
When you consider Peter\u2019s life during the earthly ministry of the Lord, Peter was always impetuous.\u00a0
\u00a0He rebuked the Lord in Matt 16, when Jesus told them he was going to die and rise again.\u00a0<\/li><\/ul>
Peter should have just listened and kept quiet.\u00a0<\/li><\/ul>
Later, he swore that he would never be offended and forsake the Lord.\u00a0<\/li><\/ul>
He would die with him before he would ever do anything like that.\u00a0<\/li><\/ul>\n
\n
However, Peter didn\u2019t realize how the Lord was setting him up for a major fall right before the crucifixion. \u00a0<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n\n\n\n
In Lk 22:36-38<\/a>, the Lord told his disciples to get some swords.\u00a0
They had two.\u00a0<\/li><\/ul>
Peter ended up with one of them.\u00a0<\/li><\/ul>
When Peter used that sword to cut off Malchus\u2019 ear in the garden, the night Jesus was arrested, Jesus rebuked Peter and healed the soldier.\u00a0<\/li><\/ul>
That offended Peter and Peter ended up denying the Lord.\u00a0<\/li><\/ul>\n

Peter never saw that change coming. \u00a0<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n\n\n\n
After the denial, when the cock crowed, the Lord looked at Peter and Peter went out and wept bitterly [Lk 22:61-62<\/a>].\u00a0
Peter was never the same after that.\u00a0<\/li><\/ul>
God changed Peter\u2019s plans and Peter made the changes God wanted him to make.\u00a0<\/li><\/ul>
Do you know what Peter wrote in his first epistle?\u00a0<\/li><\/ul>
In 1 Pet 2:17<\/a>, Peter wrote, \u201cFear God.\u201d\u00a0<\/li><\/ul>\n

He learned the important lesson that so many Christians today have never learned. \u00a0<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n\n\n\n
God is going to keep changing your plans until one of two things happens.\u00a0
You\u2019re either going to fear him and start making the changes in your life that are good for you or he\u2019s going to just back off and let you go.\u00a0<\/li><\/ul>
And I\u2019m telling you from years of experience in the Bible and in the ministry, you do not want to end up where God just lets you go.\u00a0<\/li><\/ul>\n

I have seen untold casualties among God\u2019s children when they refused to fear God.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n\n\n\n
In Isa 1:4-7<\/a>, God said to Israel, in so many words, what\u2019s the use of striking you anymore?\u00a0
You\u2019re just going to revolt more and more.\u00a0<\/li><\/ul>
And so he just let them go.\u00a0<\/li><\/ul>
In Hos 4:14<\/a> he said, \u201cI will not punish your daughters when they commit whoredom\u2026\u201d.<\/li><\/ul>
In Amos 4:4-13<\/a> he said, \u201cCome to Bethel and transgress\u2026\u201d. He just let them go.\u00a0<\/li><\/ul>
When you get to that place, you are destined for a bad ending.\u00a0<\/li><\/ul>
Consider the history of Israel after this.\u00a0<\/li><\/ul>\n
\n
Consider what they\u2019re going to go through in the Tribulation before they finally get right with God.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n\n\n\n
The best thing you can do when you see those unexpected changes occurring in your life is to get on your face before God and see what he\u2019s up to.\u00a0
If he\u2019s behind the changes, then you\u2019d better fear him, first and foremost.\u00a0<\/li><\/ul>
Once you fear him, he can then direct you with his wisdom and knowledge to make the changes in your life that will yield his peaceable fruit of righteousness.\u00a0<\/li><\/ul>
His ways are so much better than ours!!<\/li><\/ul>\n
