Intro<\/strong>:The Bible describes all kinds of tongues. \u00a0<\/li><\/ul>
We are studying tongues that are an unruly evil.\u00a0\u00a0<\/li><\/ul>\n
\n
Notice the unruly evil of a:<\/em><\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n\n\n\n
Crafty tongue<\/strong>\u00a0\u2013 Job 15:5<\/a> \u2013 \u201cthou choosest the tongue of the crafty.\u201d
A crafty tongue is cunning and skillful in devising and pursuing a scheme.\u00a0<\/li><\/ul>
Absalom used a crafty tongue to steal the hearts of the men of Israel [2 Sam 15:1-6<\/a>].\u00a0<\/li><\/ul>
The Pharisees and Herodians used a crafty tongue when they tried to catch something in Jesus\u2019 speech that they could use against him to accuse him [Mk 12:13-15<\/a>].\u00a0<\/li><\/ul>
Tertullus used a crafty tongue when he addressed Felix in Acts 24:1-4<\/a>.\u00a0<\/li><\/ul>
Contrast what these men said with what Nicodemus said in John 3:1-2<\/a>.\u00a0<\/li><\/ul>\n
\n
Nicodemus was sincere.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n\n\n\n
Deceitful tongue<\/strong>\u00a0\u2013 Psa 52:4<\/a> \u2013 \u201cthou lovest all devouring words, O thou deceitful tongue.\u201d
Psa 120:2<\/a>, also.\u00a0<\/li><\/ul>
This is the wily, subtle tongue just like the devil used against Eve in Gen 3:1<\/a>.\u00a0<\/li><\/ul>
In Eph 4:14<\/a> there are those who lie in wait to deceive young Christians.\u00a0<\/li><\/ul>\n
\n
Jacob had a very deceitful tongue, although he did not want to be known for it [Gen 27:12<\/a>; Gen 27:18-24<\/a>].<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n\n\n\n
Lying tongue<\/strong>\u00a0\u2013 Psa 109:2<\/a> \u2013 \u201cthey have spoken against me with a lying tongue.\u201d\u00a0
This tongue must be put off when we get saved [Eph 4:25<\/a>].\u00a0<\/li><\/ul>
It is easy to spot; just hold up what it says to the truth.\u00a0<\/li><\/ul>
Jezebel and the false witnesses lied against Naboth [1 Kings 21:8-13<\/a>].\u00a0<\/li><\/ul>
False witnesses lied against Stephen [Acts 6:11-14<\/a>].\u00a0<\/li><\/ul>
The old prophet lied to the young man of God [1 Kings 13:18<\/a>].\u00a0<\/li><\/ul>\n
\n
These are rulers, religious leaders and prophets; and they are liars.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n\n\n\n
Perverse tongue<\/strong>\u00a0\u2013 Prov 17:20<\/a> \u2013 \u201che that hath a perverse tongue falleth into mischief.\u201d
A perverse tongue deviates from what is right or good.\u00a0<\/li><\/ul>
It is disposed to be contrary.\u00a0<\/li><\/ul>
In Acts 20:30<\/a> Paul warned of men speaking perverse things, to draw away disciples after them.<\/li><\/ul>
They take a side that is contrary to the preacher.\u00a0<\/li><\/ul>
In 1 Tim 6:5 (see vs. 1 Tim 6:3-5<\/a>) they take a side that is contrary to the words of the Lord.\u00a0<\/li><\/ul>\n
\n
Contrast the tongue of wisdom in Prov 8:8<\/a>, which is never perverse.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n\n\n\n
Conclusion<\/strong>:
Be careful when others use these tongues against you.\u00a0<\/li><\/ul>\n
